Fred McFeely Rogers, better known as Fred Rogers or Mr. Rogers, was an American educator and artist, a minister of the Presbyterian Church, who became notable as a television presenter, lyricist for educational songs, and host of children's television programs. Rogers was the presenter and host of the television program Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, produced from 1968 to 2001.
For many years he was the couple's only child, spending much of his early childhood free time with his maternal grandfather, Fred McFeely, and developing a strong interest in music. He often sang, accompanied on piano by his mother, and began playing piano at the age of five.
After finishing high school, Rogers studied at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, from 1946 to 1948, before transferring to Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, where in 1951 he earned a BA in music composition.
In 1963, Rogers completed the course at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and was ordained a minister of the American Presbyterian Church. He would receive more than 40 honorary academic degrees during his life.
Rogers was color-blind, unable to distinguish green from red, and was a vegetarian. He swam every morning, did not drink alcohol, and did not smoke.
The biographical film A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood was released in Brazil in January 2020, starring Tom Hanks.
