Gordon Cameron Jackson was a Scottish actor whose career spanned film, theatre and television over five decades. Born in Glasgow, he first attracted attention in roles for Ealing Studios during the 1940s, appearing in war films and dramas such as Audace avventura, Naufragio and Whisky a volontà, establishing himself as a repertory and versatile performer. In the 1950s and 1960s Jackson increased his presence in international productions, working on prestigious titles — including La grande fuga and Ipcress — and earned a reputation as a notable character actor thanks to his striking features and strong Scottish accent. At the same time he remained active on stage with repertory companies. His greatest visibility came on television: between 1971 and 1975 he achieved worldwide fame for the role of the austere butler Angus Hudson in Su e giù per le scale, which brought him critical recognition and an Emmy in 1976. He then established another prominent role as George Cowley in the crime series The Professionals (1977–1983). Honoured as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, Jackson left a legacy as a character actor and a prominent figure in British television, remembered for roles that helped popularize period drama and the police series on the international circuit.
