Hugo Duminil-Copin is a French mathematician recognized for fundamental contributions to probability theory as applied to statistical physics. His research focuses on lattice models and on understanding the critical behavior of systems with phase transitions, including dependent percolation, and the Ising and Potts models. Among his works are proofs of sharpness properties of transitions and results on conformal invariance in two-dimensional models. Trained and advised by Stanislav Smirnov, Duminil-Copin made significant advances in counting self-avoiding walks on hexagonal lattices and in determining the critical point for classes of dependent percolation, often collaborating with Vincent Beffara, Vincent Tassion and Aran Raoufi. His approaches combine probability, combinatorics and analytical methods, together with results aided by computational techniques. Recognized internationally, he has received awards such as the New Horizons in Mathematics (2017) and the Fields Medal (2022). He has held academic positions at the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques and participates in European research groups, leading projects on the critical behavior of lattice models. His work reshaped the understanding of critical phenomena in mathematical physics, influencing subsequent research in the field.
