Joe Frazier was an American professional boxer, active from 1965 to 1981, known for his relentless pressure style, exceptional stamina and a powerful left hook. As an amateur he won the Olympic gold medal in 1964 and, as a professional, became the undisputed world heavyweight champion from 1970 to 1973, holding the NYSAC title from 1968 to 1973. His name is remembered for the historic victory over Muhammad Ali in 1971, in the so‑called “Fight of the Century,” and for the legendary trilogies with Ali and decisive confrontations with George Foreman, including the loss that cost him the title in 1973. Frazier ended his career with 32 wins, 4 losses and 1 draw, and is often ranked among the ten greatest heavyweights of all time by specialist organizations. Beyond his achievements in the ring, Frazier played an important role as a trainer and figure in Philadelphia’s boxing scene, where he ran a gym and trained fighters. Honors include multiple Fighter of the Year awards and induction into the inaugural class of the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990, cementing his legacy in world boxing.
