June Preston was an American child actress and soprano singer, active as a juvenile star in the 1930s and early 1940s. Discovered at studios such as RKO, she appeared in small roles in feature films and shorts — including appearances in Our Gang and bit parts in It Happened One Night, Christmas in July and The Strawberry Blonde — and even lent her name to a line of children’s clothing, promoted as a rival to other child celebrities of the era.
After her film period she devoted herself to classical singing and an operatic career. She graduated in music and took part in university productions before beginning tours of Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe; she was a member of the San Francisco Opera chorus during the 1952–1954 seasons and sang solo roles such as Mimi in La bohème, in addition to giving recitals in major halls, including the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona.
Her artistic life bridged cinema, advertising and classical music, giving her professional longevity and local recognition — such as induction into a school hall of fame — and culminated in an international career of concerts and opera. She married violinist Saul Höuben in 1963 and died in 2022.
