Kailash Satyarthi is an Indian children's rights activist known for his long commitment to combating child labor and promoting the universal right to education. Trained as an engineer, he left an academic career to found the Bachpan Bachao Andolan in 1980, a movement dedicated to identifying, freeing, rehabilitating and schooling children subjected to exploitation. His work combined direct interventions, community mobilization and the building of national and international networks.

Satyarthi organized and led high-impact global initiatives, including the Global March Against Child Labour, which crossed dozens of countries and helped shape ILO Convention 182 on the worst forms of child labor. He has also led organizations such as GoodWeave (a certification program against child labor in rug production), the Global Campaign for Education and the Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation, broadening debates on corporate responsibility and education policy.

In 2014 he received the Nobel Peace Prize, shared with Malala Yousafzai, for his efforts to protect children and young people and to secure their access to education. His legacy combines grassroots activism, international advocacy and the promotion of legal frameworks and market practices aimed at eradicating child exploitation.
