Kenneth Gilbert More was an English actor whose film and television career was best known in the 1950s and 1960s. Initially associated with light, humorous roles—made popular by Genevieve (1953) and Doctor in the House (1954)—he built a public image as a carefree gentleman who drew large British box-office audiences.

At the same time, More showed dramatic range as the lead in notable adaptations: The Deep Blue Sea (1955), which earned him critical recognition, and Reach for the Sky (1956), in which he played ace Douglas Bader and which became one of the year’s most popular films. He also appeared in historical and adventure films such as A Night to Remember (1958), North West Frontier (1959) and Sink the Bismarck! (1960).

Although his career declined in the early 1960s, he maintained a personal preference for projects such as The Comedy Man (1964) and The Greengage Summer (1961), and found renewed energy on television with prestigious adaptations like The Forsyte Saga (1967) and the Father Brown series (1974). His career reflects both postwar British social comedy and an effort to alternate popular success with prominent dramatic roles.
