Lara Fabian (born Lara Sophie Katy Crokaert) is a Belgian singer, songwriter and pianist who later became a Canadian citizen, internationally known for her lyric-spinto soprano voice and emotionally charged performances. With more than 20 million records sold, she rose to prominence in the late 20th and early 21st centuries in both francophone and anglophone markets, gaining significant exposure across Europe and the Americas. Trained in voice and piano as a child, she won music competitions and gained attention representing Luxembourg at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1988, a result that propelled her professional career. She moved to Quebec in 1990, where she released albums that were both commercial and critical successes, including Pure and English-language records that introduced her to the U.S. market. Her repertoire includes hits that became telenovela soundtracks and film themes, as well as collaborations with other artists and contributions to film projects. A polyglot, she records in several languages—predominantly French—which expanded her international reach. Lara Fabian’s legacy lies in the combination of a powerful vocal technique, a multicultural repertoire and a transnational career, which established her as an influential figure in contemporary pop and lyrical music.
