Leonardo Del Vecchio was an Italian industrial entrepreneur, founder and principal architect of Luxottica’s expansion, the company that became the world’s largest manufacturer and distributor of eyewear. Also recognized with honorary academic degrees and civic honors, Del Vecchio amassed public prominence and considerable wealth, being ranked among Italy’s richest people. He also faced tax litigation that resulted in convictions requiring payments to the State. His legacy remains tied to the industrial transformation of the eyewear sector and the international business impact achieved by his holding company.
