Peter Bardens was an English keyboardist, singer and composer, best known as a founding member of the progressive rock group Camel. He worked as a pianist and organist on notable projects from the 1960s onward, collaborating with artists such as Rod Stewart, Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood and Van Morrison, and recorded eleven solo albums over his career. Trained in fine arts, he moved early to keyboards and played in prominent bands on the British circuit, including Shotgun Express and The Village, before forming Camel in 1972. His departure from the group in 1978 led to collaborations and work with Van Morrison and participation in projects such as the Alan Parsons Project and the offshoot Keats. Around the turn of the 1980s and 1990s, Bardens explored electronic sounds, achieving commercial success with the album Seen One Earth (1987) and the single "In Dreams," which received wide radio and video play. He remained active as a bandleader and producer, and formed the band Mirage in the mid-1990s. His legacy is linked to the fusion of progressive rock and electronic keyboards, both through the influence he had on fellow musicians and through solo records and compilations that document his career.
