Lalla Meryem is a Moroccan princess known for her work on social and cultural causes and for defending the rights of women and children. The eldest daughter of King Hassan II, she graduated in sociology from Mohammed V University and, from a young age, held honorary positions linked to social programs of the Royal Armed Forces and to foundations supporting veterans and the Moroccan diaspora. Over the decades she has chaired several national organizations and initiatives focused on child protection and women’s empowerment, including the reorganization of child protection institutions and the creation of the Centre Lalla Meryem for abandoned children. In 2001 she was appointed a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, concentrating on projects for women and children, and she has taken part in Euro‑Mediterranean forums on children’s rights and human security. Beyond her associative work, she has received several international honors and performed ceremonial and representative duties that reinforced her public role as a promoter of social policies in contemporary Morocco. She remains actively involved in philanthropic initiatives whose impact is recognized nationally and internationally.
