Prince of the Two Sicilies by birth, Gabriel of Bourbon-Two Sicilies was a member of the former royal house that once ruled southern Italy. Born in France, he was the youngest son of Prince Alfonso, Count of Caserta, and Princess Maria Antonietta; he grew up amid dynastic disputes between family branches that later divided loyalty to the House of Bourbon-Two Sicilies. Like many princes of his generation, he pursued a military career in the Spanish army, chosen because of family ties to Spain. His military service and aristocratic connections shaped his career in a Europe undergoing change after the fall of the traditional monarchies. He married twice: first to Princess Margarita Isabel Czartoryska, who died shortly after giving birth to their eldest child, and later to Princess Cecylia Lubomirska, with whom he had four children. His descendants linked him to other European noble families, including Polish, German and Italian branches. Gabriel remained a representative figure of the dynastic tradition of the Bourbon-Two Sicilies, whose historical significance lies mainly in its genealogical legacy and its relations with European royal houses in the twentieth century.
