Renata Fast is a Canadian professional ice hockey player, a defenseman for the Toronto Sceptres in the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) and a member of Canada’s women’s national team. She is known for steady defensive play and the ability to contribute offensively, leading defenders in assists in the 2024–25 PWHL season and winning the league’s Defender of the Year award. A product of Clarkson’s hockey program, Fast won the NCAA national championship in 2014 and was named to the Frozen Four all-tournament team; in 2016 she scored the fastest goal in the tournament’s history, at 10 seconds into a game. As a professional she played for the Toronto Furies in the former CWHL, was a finalist for Rookie of the Year, and after the league folded joined the PWHPA and took part in the Dream Gap Tour, a key movement in reorganizing women’s hockey in North America. With Canada’s national team, Fast is a two-time Olympic medallist (silver in 2018 and gold in 2022) and has won multiple medals at IIHF World Championships, being named Best Defender and selected to the media All-Star team at the 2024 World Championship. Her career combines strong club and international performances with an active role in the sport’s transition to a more sustainable professional women’s league.
