Rose Beuret was a French seamstress and laundress best known for her long and discreet companionship with the sculptor Auguste Rodin; she was his partner for 53 years and they married in January 1917, just days before her death. From a rural family in the Haute-Marne, Beuret met Rodin in 1864 and went on to manage the household, also assisting with practical matters in the studio and organizing the artist’s work. Reserved and modest in demeanor, she became a recurring model for Rodin, appearing in works that trace the sculptor’s development — from Jeune fille au chapeau fleuri (1865) to Mignon (1869–1870) and Bellone (1878), as well as a mask from 1898. Her son, Auguste‑Eugène Beuret, was not legally acknowledged by the sculptor but served as a model and assistant in the studio. Despite her loyalty and steady presence beside Rodin, their relationship was strained by the sculptor’s numerous romantic affairs. Their late marriage is often seen as a public recognition of the woman who had accompanied his career and contributed to the domestic and artistic life of the atelier.
