Tonya Maxene Harding is an American former figure skater and briefly a professional boxer. She competed at the Olympic Games twice, was the U.S. national champion, and won the silver medal at the 1991 World Championships.
However, Tonya became better known in 1994 for her involvement in the attack on fellow skater Nancy Kerrigan, in an episode that the Portuguese portal Sapo called "one of the biggest scandals in the history of sport."
Because of the crime in which she became implicated, she was permanently banned from all competitions of the U.S. Figure Skating Association.
Tonya's attack on Nancy was "a story of conspiracy, abuse, jealousy and revenge," wrote La Silla Rota on January 31, 2022.
