Meg Ryan or Margaret Mary Emily Anne Hyra is an American actress from Fairfield, Connecticut. She studied journalism at NYU, appeared in commercials and on the soap opera As the World Turns (1982-84). She broke out as Sally in When Harry Met Sally... (1989), establishing herself in romantic comedies.
She appeared in Top Gun (1986), Sleepless in Seattle (1993, with Tom Hanks), French Kiss (1995), You've Got Mail (1998). She broke the typecast in When a Man Loves a Woman (1994, as an alcoholic) and Courage Under Fire (1996, as a military officer). She provided the voice in Anastasia (1997). Three Golden Globe nominations.
She married Dennis Quaid (1991-2001) and is the mother of Jack Quaid. She adopted Daisy (China, 2006). She was a frequent on-screen romantic partner of Tom Hanks.
