Anna Maria of Brandenburg-Ansbach was a German princess of the House of Brandenburg-Ansbach who became Duchess of Württemberg by her marriage to Christoph of Württemberg in 1544. Raised in the Lutheran faith, she was a central figure in a broad dynastic network: twelve children were born of the marriage, including Louis, who inherited the duchy, and daughters whose marriages strengthened ties with several princely houses of central Germany. As an active noble and mother, Anna Maria served as regent at the start of her son Louis VI’s rule, taking on political and governmental responsibilities during a period of succession. After her husband’s death she lived for more than two decades at Nürtingen Castle, where she managed her domains and retained local influence. Contemporary sources and genealogical accounts also record a late episode of mental frailty that led to her withdrawal, a circumstance that affected her personal life and family connections. She died in 1589 and was buried in the St. George chapel of the collegiate church in Tübingen, leaving a legacy chiefly through her descendants and the dynastic alliances she helped consolidate.
