Boris Becker is one of the greatest German tennis players of the modern era, known for his explosiveness on grass courts and for reaching the top of the world rankings. Turning professional in 1984, he won six Grand Slam titles — including becoming the youngest Wimbledon champion — and claimed an Olympic gold medal in doubles. His career features notable victories over rivals such as Ivan Lendl and Stefan Edberg, and three titles at the Tennis Masters Cup. Becker played a decisive role in Germany’s capture and defense of the Davis Cup in the late 1980s, compiling an impressive record in national-team matches. Individually he claimed 49 singles titles and 15 doubles titles, and set records such as serving five aces in one game at the 1995 Hopman Cup. After his playing days he moved into varied public roles: elite coaching (including a spell as Novak Djokovic’s coach), appearances on the senior tour, and participation in a sponsored poker circuit. He also faced legal and financial problems that marked his post-career life, including lawsuits and serving a sentence abroad. A member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame since 2003, Becker remains a recurring presence at tennis events and in documentaries, with a legacy focused on the power of his serve, his capacity to fight back in matches, and his impact on German and international tennis.
