Chad Everett, stage name of Raymon Lee Cramton, was an American actor whose work was particularly influential on television in the 1960s and 1970s. Trained in theater at Wayne State University, he began his career in film and television roles and rose to national prominence portraying Dr. Joe Gannon on the medical series Medical Center (1969–1976), a role that made him well known to audiences and critics.
Over the course of his career, Everett appeared in more than 40 film and television productions, with credits including The Singing Nun, Centennial, Airplane II and Mulholland Drive, as well as numerous guest appearances on popular series. His voice work extended to animated projects and theme-park attractions, including voicing John Wayne for an animatronic figure at a Disney theme park.
Honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1986, Everett also wrote poetry and recorded albums, maintaining a public presence beyond acting. Married for 45 years to actress Shelby Grant, he was notable for charitable work such as co-hosting the annual telethon for muscular dystrophy research. His life also included overcoming a history of alcoholism, an episode that marked his personal recovery.
