Emil W. Henry Jr. is an executive and public-policy specialist focused on the economy, financial institutions, capital markets and regulation. He studied Economics at Yale and earned an MBA from Harvard Business School, and over more than three decades in the financial industry he has worked at Morgan Stanley and Gleacher Partners and led private-equity businesses, with tenures at Lehman Brothers and at the firm Henry Tiger LLC/Tiger Infrastructure Partners. In the public sector, he served as Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions at the U.S. Department of the Treasury from 2005 to 2007, during the administrations of John Snow and Hank Paulson. In that role he coordinated initiatives on capital markets, regulatory policy, hedge funds and derivatives, and led efforts to reform government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs), publicly warning of systemic risks prior to the 2008 financial crisis. Recognized by the administration for his service — he received the Alexander Hamilton Award — Henry has also served on boards such as the Securities Investor Protection Corporation and the National Gallery of Art. Politically active in the Republican Party, he worked as an economic advisor on Mitt Romney’s 2012 campaign and is a frequent presence in media and forums on financial regulation and crisis management.
