Israel Regardie (born Israel Regudy) was an occultist, writer, and key popularizer of the Western hermetic tradition in the twentieth century. He became known both for his association with Aleister Crowley—whose secretary he was from 1928 to 1932—and for editing and publishing texts of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, material that became the basis for much modern ritual practice. His work on the Golden Dawn consolidated a body of esoteric instructions that had previously circulated only in restricted circles.

In addition to his work as an author, Regardie trained as a chiropractor, studied psychoanalysis and psychotherapy, and maintained clinical and teaching activities in the United States. This combination of medical training and interests in Kabbalah, Theosophy, and psychology influenced his practical and pedagogical approach to magical and meditative techniques.

His bibliography includes influential titles such as A Golden Dawn, The Middle Pillar, The Tree of Life, and A Garden of Pomegranates, works that remain reference points for scholars and practitioners. Regardie left a recognized legacy in the public dissemination of the Golden Dawn ritual corpus and in integrating esoteric practices with contemporary psychological contexts.
