Graham Russell is a British-born musician who is also associated with the North American music scene, best known as co‑founder, singer, songwriter and guitarist of the soft rock duo Air Supply. Formed in Australia in the mid‑1970s with Russell Hitchcock, the partnership became internationally known for commercially successful romantic ballads such as “Lost in Love,” “All Out of Love” and “The One That You Love,” songs that placed the duo on the charts from the late 1970s into the early 1980s. Self-taught on guitar and percussion, Russell developed an early interest in poetry and literature, influences that inform his lyric writing and the duo’s melodic aesthetic. After work in musical theatre and on the Australian scene, the pair attracted the attention of international record labels, which led to tours and exposure on high‑audience pop‑rock radio. Known for a vocal and compositional style focused on romantic songcraft, his legacy is tied to the duo’s long career and to a body of work that helped define a strand of adult-contemporary soft rock in subsequent decades. His instrumental choices and arrangements contributed to the band’s distinctive sound.
