Jacques Goddet was a French sports journalist and a central figure in cycling, best known for directing the Tour de France from 1936 to 1986. From a family connected to sports journalism—his father was a cofounder of the newspaper that created the race—Goddet took on editorial duties early and built a career covering major events, such as the 1932 Olympic Games, before assuming leadership of the race when Henri Desgrange fell ill.
