Johann Friedrich of Brandenburg-Ansbach was a German noble of the House of Hohenzollern who ruled as Margrave of Ansbach from 1667, succeeding his father Albert II. His position belonged to the milieu of the small territorial states of the Holy Roman Empire in the seventeenth century, where dynastic succession and marital alliances were central instruments for maintaining power and influence. He married twice; from his first marriage he had several children, although some died in childhood. From his second marriage to Eleonore Erdmuthe Louise of Saxe-Eisenach was born Caroline of Ansbach, who later married George II of Great Britain. That union raised the international standing of the Ansbach dynasty, linking it to the British court and contributing to its appearance in European royal genealogies. Although his rule is not associated with major reforms or widely recorded military achievements, Johann Friedrich is chiefly notable for his dynastic role: his descendants affected later successions and alliances, serving as one of the links between the German houses and the British monarchies.
