Mary Caroline Pierce is a former French-Canadian professional tennis player who rose to prominence in the 1990s and early 2000s. Known for the power and aggression of her serve and groundstrokes, she reached No. 3 in the WTA singles rankings and won 18 singles titles, including two Grand Slams — the 1995 Australian Open and the 2000 French Open. She also claimed 10 doubles titles, among them Wimbledon mixed doubles (2005) and the French Open doubles (2000). Pierce was noted for victories over top opponents and for reaching major finals, as well as for decisive appearances at the WTA Tour Championships. She was a member of the French teams that won the Fed Cup in 1997 and 2003, contributing crucially in key ties. Her career included setbacks and comebacks, earning awards for her return to form. Off court, her life involved public family disputes that influenced tournament regulations and debates about relatives’ presence at events. Inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2019, Pierce remains the last Frenchwoman to win the French Open singles title, leaving a legacy of power and competitiveness in women’s tennis.
