John Michael Crichton was an American author, screenwriter, director, producer, and physician known for popularizing the techno-thriller, a genre that blends action with scientific detail. Trained in medicine at Harvard, he applied his medical and scientific knowledge to novels that examine the relationship between technology and society, often culminating in scenarios of biotechnological catastrophe. The author of bestsellers such as The Andromeda Strain, Jurassic Park, The Lost World, Disclosure, and Timeline, Crichton sold more than 200 million copies worldwide.
