Maria of Baden (1834–1899) was a 19th-century princess of the ruling house of Baden. The daughter of Grand Duke Leopold of Baden and Princess Sophie of Sweden, she belonged to a dynastic network that included German monarchies and kinship ties with the British royal family and the Russian nobility, giving her a notable position within the interwoven European aristocracy of the period.
In 1858 she married Prince Ernst Leopold of Leiningen and took the title Princess of Leiningen. The marriage produced two children: Alberta, who died unmarried in 1901, and Emich, who became the 5th Prince of Leiningen and continued the line. The union strengthened bonds among mediatized houses and reflected the dynastic alliance practices typical of the 19th century.
Although there is no record of a prominent political role, Maria fulfilled the social and dynastic functions expected of high nobility—maintaining the lineage, participating in European kinship networks, and preserving titles. Her legacy lies chiefly in the continuation of the House of Leiningen and in the family connections that illustrate the aristocratic structure of her era.
