Shadoe Stevens, born Terry Ingstad, is an American radio and television announcer and personality, known for his distinctive voice and varied career. He first became known as a young disc jockey and built a career at major stations such as WRKO, KHJ and KROQ-FM, and also worked as a program director in important radio formats. His voice and presence led him to announce and appear on television programs, including Hollywood Squares and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and to voice characters and projects such as the Off-Broadway musical Altar Boyz.
In the 1970s and 1980s he gained attention with a series of offbeat commercials for the Federated Group, which brought press coverage and opened doors to film and TV. From 1988 to 1995 he hosted American Top 40, a role that cemented his prominence in mainstream radio. He later hosted the international program Top of the World and co-hosted Mental Radio, a show focused on UFO and paranormal topics.
Beyond performance and announcing, Stevens co-founded the Cabo Wabo radio station and wrote children’s books, extending his reach beyond adult entertainment. His life also included a period of recovery from substance dependence in the 1980s, and a lasting legacy as a recognizable voice on American radio and television.
