Shirley Veronica Bassey is a Welsh singer whose career spans more than seven decades, noted for her powerful voice and dramatic presence. She became popular in the United Kingdom from the 1950s, accumulating dozens of chart hits and achieving pioneering milestones, including the first No. 1 single by a Welsh artist.
She is particularly remembered for performing the theme songs for three James Bond films — “Goldfinger,” “Diamonds Are Forever,” and “Moonraker” — the only artist to record more than one official theme for the franchise. She also held long-running contracts with British television, appeared in specials, and gave numerous concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, where she performed repeatedly.
