Aron Lee Ralston is an American climber, hiker and engineer internationally known for his remarkable survival story in April 2003 in Blue John Canyon, Utah. When his right arm became pinned by a boulder, Ralston spent days isolated and without communication, ultimately amputating his own limb to escape — an episode that drew wide media attention.
The case is recounted in his autobiography Between a Rock and a Hard Place (published in Portuguese as 127 Horas) and was adapted for the screen in the film 127 Hours, in addition to being referenced in popular programs and films. His account documents the details of the rescue, the public reaction and the physical and psychological effects of the event.
After recovering, Ralston returned to mountaineering, taking part in expeditions in South America and remaining a visible figure in the climbing and adventure community. His experience has become a reference in discussions of safety in outdoor activities, human resilience and decision-making in extreme situations.
