Charlie Daniels (Charles Edward Daniels) was an American singer, instrumentalist and songwriter whose career, beginning in the 1950s, spanned rock, country, blues and jazz. Skilled on fiddle, guitar, banjo and mandolin, he worked as a session musician on notable recordings — including collaborations with Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr and Leonard Cohen — before establishing his own career leading the Charlie Daniels Band. The band helped define Southern rock and achieved major commercial success in the late 1970s. The album Million Mile Reflections and the single “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” brought them mainstream recognition, with the single reaching the Billboard Top 10 and earning Daniels a Grammy. Over subsequent decades Daniels moved between rock and country, organized events such as the Volunteer Jam and appeared in the film Urban Cowboy. Recognized for his longevity and influence, Daniels was inducted into several halls of fame, including the Country Music Hall of Fame, and remained active as a performer and recording artist in the 21st century, also exploring bluegrass and gospel repertoire. His work left a mark on American country-rock repertoire and on the fiddle tradition within the genre.
