Princess Caroline of Denmark was a member of the Danish royal family in the 19th century, known as the eldest surviving daughter of King Frederick VI. Although informally called the “Crown Princess” while unmarried, she was excluded from the succession by the Salic Law; her marital life, marked by several failed proposals, ended in 1829 with a dynastic marriage to her cousin and heir, Prince Ferdinand. The union, childless, was long-lasting and aimed to strengthen ties between branches of the royal house. Caroline received an education focused on the arts and music and maintained a close relationship with her father. She suffered two accidents involving severe burns — one in 1830 that disfigured her face — an event that shaped her social life and public image. Despite this, she took part in ceremonial military duties by accompanying her husband on troop inspections and was noted as a skilled horsewoman. In the social sphere, she founded a charitable asylum in Aarhus (1836) and became protector of Vallø Stift in 1852, demonstrating a commitment to charitable works. Upon becoming Hereditary Princess in 1848 she gained greater visibility, but she never became queen: her husband died in 1863 before succeeding to the throne.
