Robert Anton Wilson (1932–2007) was an American writer whose work moved between fiction, philosophy, and counterculture. He became known above all for the Illuminatus! Trilogy (written with Robert Shea), a satirical novel that mocked American conspiratorial paranoia and helped consolidate myths and symbols of 1970s counterculture.

Throughout his career he combined fiction and essays in titles such as Cosmic Trigger, Prometheus Rising, and Quantum Psychology, where he explored topics like Discordianism, occultism, neuroplasticity, and alternative models of consciousness, often translating esoteric ideas into practical exercises to alter perception.

A contributor to influential magazines of the time, he played an important role in spreading debates about futurology, psychology, and the media, keeping a dialogue with figures such as Timothy Leary. A proponent of a skeptical and pragmatic stance—so‑called “Maybe Logic”—he proposed treating beliefs in terms of probabilities rather than absolute certainties.

His legacy remains alive in publications, translations, and documentaries, and he continues to influence authors, researchers, and readers interested in alternative philosophy, conspiracy theories, and consciousness‑expansion practices.
